Things We Do

All Souls Missoula is a work in progress.

Our ultimate goal is to be a church (you probably knew that already). But for us, 'church' is something that is much bigger than a building or a service on Sundays. It's more than just rite and ritual (although those are important). At its best, we believe the church is something that functions all week long, and that is fundamentally a community - not just for those who believe, but also for those who don't. It should be a place where people can be honest about who they are, and who they're not.

This is the kind of place we're working to create. A place where relationships run deep. A place where friendship is not contingent. A place where you can put all your baggage on the table and not get rejected for it. A place where you can be accepted as you are, whether or not you agree with us about Jesus.

That's what we're working for. And we do a number of things in pursuit of this goal (check the Weekly Happenings post to see what's going on this week)...

  • Sunday Worship - once a week we gather as friends to worship Jesus. It's a casual, come as you are environment where anyone is welcome, regardless of your convictions (or lack thereof). There's a nursery for kids, great music, and lots of interesting folks. If you are a follower of Christ, or someone who is simply spiritually curious, we would love to have you join us. It happens at 10 AM on Sundays in Room 307 of the Missoula Children's Theater (200 N Adams - it's on the 3rd floor; you can enter from Main St. on the south side of the building).
  • Kettlehouse Fridays - most Friday afternoons, we gather at the KHole between 5 and 6:30 PM because we think Jesus would like this place. Plus it's a great way to meet new friends, catch up on life, and celebrate a place where our city is beautiful.

  • Friday Nights at the Movies - we think culture matters too, and one of the best ways to engage culture is to spend an evening with friends watching & discussing great movies. We do this sporadically - when the wind blows in an opportunity!

  • Explorers Groups - throughout the year, we offer a courses specifically for skeptics, doubters, and people with questions to take a closer look at Jesus and Christianity. Folks who have participated tell us this is one of the coolest things we do. You can read more about it here...

  • Community Groups - community groups are a chance to see how the message of Jesus should shape us as a community of faith (one that includes believers and unbelievers alike). We meet weekly to share a meal as friends, to wrestle with Scripture, and to ponder how we can work for the good of the city. You can read more about it here...

  • Men's Samson Group - at All Souls Missoula we're not interested in creating a boys club where men go off and do their thing or a girls club where women separate to do their thing. However we do think (for whatever reason) that there is one area of our lives where men need the support and strength of other men - in our sexual struggles. This group meets weekly at 7 AM in a 12-step format. It's a place for men to learn how to tell the honest story about themselves and learn to live authentically in this sex-crazed culture. We're using Samson and the Pirate Monks to help provide a framework for our discussions. If you're currently struggling with your sexuality then this is a group for you. Contact Ryan for more information. Click here for one day in the life of a Pirate Monk.

  • Intentional Women - with the fast pace life of families, careers, and other service it is increasingly difficult for relationships with other women. This is an informal, weekly gathering of women who want to be intentional about honest sharing, praying and caring for each other. Contact Rachel for time, location or more information.

  • Vision Dinners - it seems like we're constantly making new friends, meeting new folks with an interest in what we're doing. Every couple of months, we'll be hosting a dinner where people who are curious can hear about our vision and ask questions. Please contact us if you'd be interested in attending one...
As you can see, there's a lot going on and many ways for you to get connected. Our desire is not create a bunch of programs that require people to manage. Instead we believe community takes intentionality and hard work and so these are merely the ways to facilitate a slower life so that we can actually connect to God and one another.

Specifics vary from week to week, so the best way to stay connected is to subscribe to the weekly mailing list. We'd love to have join us in this adventure!
